The Córdova family, the area's first settlers, arrived in 1834 and ran cattle here; in 1967 about 1,000 acres of their land, including the ranch house, were taken for Castaic Lake and its dam. Summers are hot and dry, with average highs from the 90s to above 100°F from June through September, and winters are cool and moderately rainy.
